It is a world that takes shape in darkness and in post-apocalyptic conditions in which documents and myths, fiction and reality merge into one.

The project’s idea comprises a set of problems about the relationships between man and his surroundings in the context of climate change. Drawing on the energy of contemporary Bulgarian artists and designers, the “Bang” is an experiment that turns the gallery into a laboratory. Through 30 April the space will host an unusual, artificially created and mutated ecosystem whose aim is to point up certain drastic problems and offer some solutions.

New, adapted species; piles of waste packaging; guerrilla gardening; threats from outer space; environmentally responsible architecture; the emotions and sensations that stir the people living on “Desert Earth” after a colossal environmental catastrophe; the consequences of human presence—these are the new world’s building blocks.

Some of the works have been created specially for the exhibition, and will be displayed for the first time.

The participating artists are Svetozara Alexandrova, Ivo Bistrichki, Rada Boukova, Petko Dourmana, Nikola Enchev/Juliana Mori, Simeon Stoilov, Krassimir Terziev, Sofia Hristozova/Marta Dimitrova, Veronika Tzekova.

The opening reception will take place at 7 p.m. on 15 March at the Credo Bonum Gallery, 2 Slavyanska Str.

The exhibition in detail

“The Big Bang” will be inhabited by Bio-Sapiens, a sculpture by Svetozara Alexandrova that will be in the care of the gallery’s guests for a month and a half. She now invites the audience to join a series of actions aimed at improving the environment.

An asteroid on a menacing course towards the Earth and an ancient Egypt’s god of chaos were the inspiration for Apophis, a sculptural object by Simeon Stoilov. The work doubles as a symbol for how relationships work in contemporary society.

Nikola Enchev and Stefan Vankov, the winners of the 2011 edition of the Design Against the Elements competition, present for the first time in Bulgaria their project for dwellings that can withstand changes in climate.

Environmentally responsible architecture is the underlying value in the projects of the architect Nikolay Marinov.
