The exhibition “Screens and Schemes” explores current issues related to media disinformation, fake news, and political propaganda. In a world where people are immersed every hour in manipulated informational content, the need for critical thinking and well-informed awareness is of vital importance.

Although the primary tool of disinformation is often the image itself, the visual arts rarely address this problem directly. “Screens and Schemes” is a joint initiative of two galleries — Credo Bonum in Sofia and Karpuchina Gallery in Prague. It presents the perspectives of six contemporary Bulgarian and Czech artists on these urgent topics.

Through works created specifically for the project and using diverse media — painting, sculpture, and video — the artists reflect on the mechanisms of reality distortion and the human perspective within this process. During the preparation period, the artists met with media experts and examined research and data developed over many years by specialists from both Bulgaria and the Czech Republic — two countries equally exposed to media manipulation in recent years. Remaining within their artistic practice, the participating artists create works that provoke reflection on the situation our societies find themselves in today.
