The exhibition “Screens and Schemes” examines the pressing issues of media disinformation, fake news, and political propaganda. In a world in which people are immersed hourly in manipulated informational content, the need for critical thinking and informed awareness is of vital importance.

Although the primary tool of disinformation is often the image itself, the visual arts seldom address this problem directly. “Screens and Schemes” is initiated by two galleries — Credo Bonum in Sofia and Karpuchina Gallery in Prague — and presents the perspectives of six contemporary Bulgarian and Czech artists on the subject.

With works created especially for the project and employing diverse media — painting, sculpture, and video — the artists explore the mechanisms through which reality is distorted and how human perception is involved in this process. During the preparation of the exhibition, the artists met with media experts and examined data and research developed over many years by specialists from both Bulgaria and the Czech Republic — two countries that have been similarly exposed to media manipulation in recent years. Remaining within their artistic practice, the authors create works that provoke reflection on the situation in which our societies find themselves today.
