For Bees and Man
Bees. Who could indicate a better symbol of harmony in nature? They pollinate 84% of the plants that make up the healthy diet of man. They create honey – perhaps the most useful food product, and bee products such as jelly, clay, pollen, wax, even bee venom, do not stop to find new applications in the treatment and prevention of a number of diseases.
So when 40% of the bee families disappear from the ocean, we worry, and when more countries in Europe recognize excessive bee mortality, we get to work. From the media sensation to the institutional denial of the syndrome, the versions in Bulgaria are many, but we have to conclude that there is no adequate assessment of the condition.
With more and more alarming signals about high bee losses in Bulgaria, we want to put the problem in the context of a number of reasons and to look for the relevant complex solutions.
The Bee and People campaign relies on the experience of active beekeepers, academics and the responsibility of all active citizens to lay the foundations for productive communication on the subject. To unite around the indisputable: we are part of the world, and bees are the foundation of its beauty.
The first campaign for Bulgaria that drew attention to the declining population of bees worldwide and explored the causes of this phenomenon in Bulgaria. A large-scale information campaign on the issue, a specialized study, a round table with representatives of state institutions, beekeepers and veterinarians and a working group of experts in the field of beekeeping was carried out within the framework of the initiative. The next activities are holding seminars for urban beekeeping, participation in specialized forums and initiatives on the topic and others.
