CREDO BOX presents:
CURATORIAL APPROACH TOWARD THE ANONIMITY OF THE AUTHOR
23 OCTOBER – 13 NOVEMBER
CREDO BOX | Галерия Credo Bonum, ул. „Славянска“ № 2
DATÆ collects epistolary traces of absent authors on obsolete frames. It is an attempt to think the relationship between the date as a collection of calendar time and the message out of its temporal logic. The experiment is base on the stability of the material and the durability of a given idea. DATÆ exposes the intimate thought found in a diary, letter, or novel in front of the anonymity of the public eye.
The approach is based on the possibility that a given sign can be repeated as an act of recollection, as a citation. In this possibility lies the ability of a sign to convey meaning. The claims made may or may not be true, but the first question is whether they can reappear, come back, and whether in the process they retain their original signification.
DATÆ cites what has already been written, but retains the anonymity of its author, because what cannot be cited is the signature. The unique in form and event signature, although repeated by the signatory, cannot be repeated by another. This is the next proposition of DATÆ – the absence of the author.
On a final note, DATÆ again raises the question of the authenticity of a given / discovered sign beyond the author’s name – in the city, on the street, where what is written becomes performative. From the decision of truthfulness remains in the reading of the other.
Hristo Kaloyanov is a freelance curator. He works with archives, photography and digital technology on topics such as absence, inconsistency and future opportunities. Periodically publishes critical texts.
Credo BOX is an exhibition space, part of the Credo Bonum Gallery, but with its own program. Located at the entrance of the gallery – mother, the small BOX is a small bright niche in which chamber projects of artists will be displayed. It is a place for a work of art, for an artistic motto, for a drawing, photography, audio or video work, as well as for a small, focused artistic gesture, for words and messages.
