Credo Bonum Gallery and Liberal Institute for Policy Analysis present exhibition “Caricatures Of The King”
The exhibition will present caricatures from the private collection of King Simeon II – about 100 works by Bulgarian and foreign authors, in which the object of humor is the King himself as prime minister and statesman. Some of the caricatures were published during the years in the daily newspapers and periodicals. The collection has also works from the time when His Majesty was in exile.
The exhibition is a glimpse into a different image of King Simeon II. He always used to say that in our everyday life there is an acute shortage of smiles.
With this exhibition, His Majesty wishes to express its appreciation and support to the authors for their smartness and ingenuity in creating political satire. The exhibition is a contribution to promoting the development of the art of caricature in Bulgaria and aims to contribute to promoting the work of the Bulgarian cartoonists in the country and abroad. The collection includes caricatures of famous Bulgarian artists, including Christo Komarnitski Ivailo Ninov, Ivailo Tsvetkov, Chavdar Nikolov, Rumen Statkov, Hristo Kurtev, Anatoly Stankulov.
“The ability to be able to make fun out of the hardships in life, to be able to address with humor everyday situations and to observe yourself with irony are invaluable qualities for each of us,” said His Majesty.
During his mandate as Prime Minister of Bulgaria the King was led by the desire to prevent media censorship in covering the social and political processes. One of his mottos uttered from the tribune of the Bulgarian Parliament, was: “For us it is not important that the government has media comfort. It is better for the media to have governmental comfort. ”
